Women’s soccer runs Riverside ragged

Friday’s soccer game against the Riverside Tigers at J. Serra High School in San Juan Capistrano concluded with the Gauchos winning 2-0.

This victory let Saddleback’s soccer team assume fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference, actually changing ranks with Riverside.

A neutral score comprised the majority of the first half of the game, until the 43-minute mark, when Valerie Hlozek drew a foul inside the penalty area.

Diana Kim then converted the penalty kick, bringing the score up to 1-0. A half hour went by in the second half before Mia Trimino centered a ball by making a run into the field’s left corner.

This allowed Kaelyn Kaichi, who was open about eight yards from the right post, to score the final goal.

Honorable mentions go to Kayla Cates, the Tigers goalkeeper, who stopped four Saddleback shots, and Saddleback’s goalie Kristen Egner, with six saves throughout the game; five of them being in the second half.
