After defeating Santa Ana and losing to Cypress by only two points two weeks ago, the Women’s Basketball team at Irvine Valley found themselves unsuccessful in pulling ahead in OEC standings when they were overcome by Fullerton, 62-49, last Friday night.

After the first half, the Lasers were close to the Hornets, trailing only 31-27, shooting 37 percent from the field.

The hot hands of freshman guard Erika Garcia led the Lasers and shot five of seven from the field for 14 points while grabbing four rebounds in the defeat.

In the second half, the Hornets pulled away led by guard Taiyande Huskey, who contributed 19 points and eight rebounds for Fullerton. She was nine for 11 from the free-throw line in the game.

Forward Ashley Dunn who finished with 12 points and five rebounds also supported the Lasers. In a turn of events, the Laser’s overall leading scorer Courtney Kollasch averaging 13.2 points per game, finished 0 of 7 from the field, and her only two points coming from free throws.

With 20 turnovers, the Lasers yet again committed more than their opposition last Friday.

The Lasers are now 13-13 overall on the season and hold a 1-6 record in Orange Empire Conference play. Good for last place in the OEC play.

IVC will play at Orange Coast College tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates are in second place in the OEC with a 5-1 record in conference and are 18-7 overall.

On Friday, the Lasers will host Riverside, which holds a 3-4 record in conference while posting a 12-14 record overall thus far in the season. The game against the Tigers will be at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be in the Hart gymnasium.
