Undefeated IVC women’s volleyball to take on Saddleback College

The first place Irvine Valley College women’s volleyball team will look to remain undefeated as they host the Saddleback College Gauchos Friday afternoon at 3.

The Lasers are 14-0 this season, and they have won 18 consecutive regular season matches dating back to last season, Since 2011, IVC owns a 23-3 record at home, their last home loss occurring last season when they fell to Golden West College 3-1 (23-25, 18-25, 25-19, 19-25).

Freshman middle blocker Annie Mitchum has played a key role in the Lasers success this season, as she currently leads the state with 1.98 blocks per set. Mitchum’s .449 hitting percentage leads the Orange Empire Conference, and is fourth highest in the state.

Mitchum is also in position to set several program records this season for the Lasers. She became the first player since 2000 to record 26 or more solo blocks in a season, and is three away from breaking the school record. Mitchum’s .449 hitting percentage is currently the third highest hitting percentage ever by a Laser, and her 53 block assists and 79 total blocks are both the third highest in school history.

The Gauchos (5-10, 1-7 in conference) are coming into this matchup having lost nine of their last 10 games, and are second to last in the Orange Empire Conference standing
