The Saddleback women’s soccer team looked to rebound from its 2008 campaign in which it had a record 4-12-5.  Thus far, the Gauchos have yet to gain momentum with a 0-3-1 record, including two shutouts.

In the season opener on August 26, the Gauchos lost 3-0 at Long Beach City. Rachel Miles had four saves for the Gauchos in the first half. Kim Goupille came on in the second half and had five saves for the Gauchos.

In the August 28 home opener, the Gauchos came up short against San Diego Mesa, 3-1. Brittany Flores scored the only Saddleback goal in the 89th minute on a free kick just outside the penalty box.

On Friday, Saddleback played Evergreen College at Cuesta College, a neutral site. Cuesta took the lead 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Arriel Varela scored to tie the match at one and lead to the 1-1 final.

This new momentum did not hold as Saddleback lost on Saturday’ to Diablo Valley, 2-0.

Saddleback returns to the field today at home against San Diego City College at 3 p.m. Orange Empire Conference play will start September 12 with a home game against Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
