Saddleback women’s basketball wins against Cypress

Saddleback College women’s basketball team defeated Cypress College 65-58, Wednesday night.

Cypress was undefeated in the conference, 4-0, prior to their game against the Gauchos; now 4-1.

Cypress Head Coach Margaret Mohr’s, regarding a last minute timeout, said, “We always think we have a chance to win so there was no concession or anything like that, we just got to push it and foul quick, get a quick shot and foul quick.”

With the win the Gauchos are now in first place in the Orange Empire Conference.

They are currently on a four-game win streak making their conference record, 4-0, also improving their overall season record, 13-8.

Game standouts include guard Kaleena Vardoulakis who went 4-7 on field goals all by 3-pointers. Guard Deja Brookes also lead the Gauchos to victory with 20 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds.

Gaucho Head Coach Fentriss Winn on the first place pending victory said, “It feels good. We played extremely hard on a neutral court and got a win so it’s great.”

Saddleback will face Santa Ana Friday at 7:30 p.m. Santa Ana is currently on a three game losing streak, with a current conference record of 1-3.]
