A bit of sibling rivalry will be in the air this Friday at Saddleback College.

The first annual Presidents’ Cup, which will feature men’s and women’s basketball teams in two games between Saddleback and Irvine Valley College, will take place in the Gaucho gymnasium. The free event will take place Jan. 16 at 5 p.m., and will offer complementary refreshments and entertainment.

Guests will be able to compete in a basketball throwing competition at half-time for prizes, and the Saddleback cheerleaders will perform as well.

The night will prove to be a fun-filled family evening, and both college presidents are eager for the Presidents’ Cup to take place.

Dr. Tod A. Burnett, President of Saddleback College, said in a prepared statement, “I look forward to attending the Presidents’ Cup to watch the Gauchos face off against our sister college in what is sure to be an exciting night of basketball. The Gauchos are having a terrific season and I look forward to watching our teams compete for the Presidents’ Cup on Friday night.”

“We look forward to building a sense of tradition for this generation and those that come,” said Glenn R. Roquemore, President, Irvine Valley College in a prepared statement. “We are very excited to be launching the Presidents’ Cup in both men’s and women’s basketball. With a lot of balance in the Orange Empire Conference this season on both the men’s and women’s sides, we should have close games and a fun night of basketball.”

The men’s and women’s teams have already started the season phenomenally, and will doubtlessly render an exciting game for Gaucho and Laser fans alike.
