Pirates ground out to second base leaving Gauchos the win

The regular season ended Wednesday night with a 5-4 win against Orange Coast College Pirates at Saddleback College’s Trani Field.

With Saddleback leading 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the OCC Pirates scored on an errant throw to first base bringing the score to 5-4. While runners were on second and third with two outs, Saddleback pitcher Bree Beatty got Pirates hitter to ground out to second base to end the game.

Gaucho freshman Bree Beatty pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and six walks in the win, striking out four. Beatty has accumulated 31-19 overall and conference.

Jessica Angulo hit her first home run at the top of the third inning while sophomore Christina Pantages finished the game with four RBI and 2-for-3. Pantages hit a three-run blast leading the Gauchos 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

Saddleback Gauchos end the regular season with 25-14 overall and fifth place with 11-10 in Orange Empire Conference. With a No.9 RPI in the south, the Gauchos may enter playoff series starting Saturday.
