Mt. SAC to hold season opener against Gauchos

Adam Kolvites

The opening kickoff of the 2013 season is almost underway and both the Saddleback College Gauchos and Mt. San Antonio Mounties have something at stake. Saddleback Gauchos will be the underdog this game because they lost to the Mounties twice in the 2012 season, yet are almost evenly tied in their career record against the Mounties (8-10). The Mounties are ranked #1 by JCFootball.com preseason polls and will be contending against opponents to keep their team on top, while down the line, the Gauchos are ranked #14.

Saddleback Quarterback Tim Belman will return this season after having a successful freshman year passing for 2,898 yards and throwing 22 touchdowns.

Gauchos Head Coach Mark McElroy will lead his team into the 2013 season with a Saddleback career record of 99-44.

The Gauchos and Mounties will meet in the season opener at Hilmer Lodge Stadium home of the Mounties at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
