Lasers halt losing streak to advance in playoffs

The Irvine Valley College Lasers Men’s basketball team snapped it’s three game losing streak last Friday night defeating San Bernadino Valley College Wolverines 63-50.

The Lasers used a balanced scoring attack and a stellar defensive effort against the Foothill Conference MVP Keon Pledger to knock out the Wolverines.

Travis Fulton scored 19 points, Kalob Hatcher contributed 13, and Sean Donavon chipped in with 10 of his own points to lead the Lasers in scoring.

Meanwhile, usual high scorers Ramon Mejia and first team Orange Empire Selection Joe Eberhard spent most of their energy containing the high scoring Pledger. Pledger came in scoring 18.5 points per game. He finished with 12 points on just four of 21 shooting.

Eberhart’s and Mejia’s defensive efforts proved to be the difference in the game as the Wolverines could not find anyone to pick up the scoring slack.

Both Eberhard, and Mejia finished with nine points a piece to further add to the balanced offensive effort.

The timely victory advances the Lasers to the next round of the California Community College Athletic Association’s Southern Regional playoffs where they travel to face top-seeded Mt. San Antonio College, in Walnut. Game time is 7 p.m.
