IVC round-up – 9/9/09

Women’s volleyball: The Lasers opened their season with a dominant performance at College of the Canyons on September 2. IVC swept the Cougars, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21. Freshman Ellie Wiekamp led the Lasers with 16 kills and chipped in six digs. Three players for IVC ended up with at least 10 kills in the match. 

The Laser’s next match and home opener is on Friday  at 5 p.m. against the Comets of Palomar College.

 

Women’s soccer: IVC opened their season with two straight losses, 3-0 at home to Southwestern on August 28 and a 3-1 at Palomar on September 1. Kelly Knaup scored the goal at Palomar.

IVC earned its first victory with a 3-0 win over Grossmont on September 4.  Arabia Ruiz scored all three goals for the first hat trick since IVC soccer was reinstated in 2004.

The Lasers next play at Miramar College on Friday at 3 p.m.

 

Women’s golf: The three members of the IVC golf team opened with strong  performances at the South Coast Classic Invitational Tournament on August 30 and 31. Nicole Rivera finished with a score of 153, which was only two shots behind the leaders. Sam Roberts finished with a 169 and Tiffany Kane ended with a 181.

On September 2, the Lasers competed at the Orange Empire Conference Tee Off Classic. Rivera finished one over par with a 73, Roberts finished 3 over par with a 75, and Kane finished eight over par with an 80.

IVC returns to the course on Friday at the Desert Invitational.
