IVC round-up – 9/23/09

Women’s volleyball

Last Wednesday, the Lasers were given the No. 5 spot in the first state poll of the season. IVC is behind El Camino, Santa Rosa, Sacramento City, and Orange Coast.

IVC lived up to its early ranking with a win that night over San Diego Mesa to improve to 3-0. The Lasers swept the Knights in three games, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16.

Katie Wilkerson led the way for the Lasers with 14, nine digs, and five aces. Nichole May had 12 digs, and Allie Hammer had 34 assists.

IVC gets back on the court tonight at home against the Moorpark College Raiders at 5 p.m.

Men’s soccer

IVC brought its record back to even last Tuesday against Glendale.

IVC was down 2-0 in the first half after goals in the 24th and 41st minutes of the game. Edward Zepeda got the Lasers in the game with a goal in the final minute of the second half. Zepeda helped tie the game with a cross into the box that was knocked home by Andy Martinez in the 55th minute. Martinez got the deciding goal for the Lasers in the 80th minute. Martinez beat the goalie with a shot inside the box for the 3-2 lead.

IVC starts Orange Empire Conference play on September 29 at Riverside Community College against the Tigers.

Women’s golf

At the Orange Empire Conference golf match last Wednesday, the three individual Laser golfers posted the three lowest scores.

Nicole Rivera was the leader with a two over par 76. The score earned Rivera medalist honors for the second consecutive match. Sam Roberts swung an eight over par 82 for second place. Tiffany Kane swung a 13 over par 87 for third place.
