IVC round-up – 9/16/09

Women’s volleyball:

The Lasers earned their second win of the season in a four-game victory over Palomar on September 11.

After losing the first game 23-25, IVC never trailed in a 27-25 second game win. The Lasers broke open a tight third game with a 6-0 run that led to the 25-21 win. In the fouth game, IVC got to an early 9-1 lead. Palomar pulled close at 17-15, but the Lasers won the final eight points for the 25-16 win and the match victory.

Katie Wilkerson led IVC with 14 kills. Ellie Wiekamp and Hillary Crone added 12 kills. Nichole May led with 12 digs and Allie Hammer had 41 assists.

The Lasers return to the court tonight against the Knights of San Diego City College at San Diego at 5 p.m.

 

Women’s soccer:

IVC earned an additional victory on September 8. Palomar was forced to forfeit its win over IVC on September 1 due to the use of an ineligible player.

The Lasers were also out on the field on September 8. IVC was handed a 5-1 loss by Victor Valley. Arabia Ruiz scored the single goal for IVC. Christina Huapaya made five saves.

The Lasers’ next match is on Tuesday September 22 at home against the Golden West Rustlers at 3 p.m.

 

Men’s soccer:

After taking one of three matches at the Hartnell Tournament on September 4-6, the Lasers took on San Diego Mesa in their home opener on September 8. IVC took the game 2-0. Edward Zepeda scored two goals for the Lasers. Kurt Bond made four saves and Alfie Nowak and Luis Miguel had the assists on the goals.

On September 10, IVC went on the road to Moorpark. The Lasers fell to their third defeat of the season with a 3-1 decision. Scott Drennen scored the lone goal for IVC with Francisco Hernandez on the assist. Bond made five saves for the Lasers.

IVC opens up Orange Empire Conference play on September 29 at Riverside against the Tigers at 3 p.m.
