IVC round-up – 10/7/09

Women’s volleyball:

The Lasers moved up to No. 4 in the latest California state rankings. IVC is behind El Camino, Sacramento City, and Orange Coast.

IVC opened up Orange Empire Conference play with a four-game win over Riverside on Friday.

The Lasers won 25-16, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, on Dig Pink Volleyball Project Breast Cancer Awareness Night. IVC wore pink uniforms to promote breast cancer awareness. The night included free Asics pink T-shirts, raffles, and auctions to raise money for breast cancer research.

Katie Wilkerson was the star of the night for the Lasers. Wilkerson led IVC with 18 kills, 14 digs, and five aces.

Ellie Wiekmap was close behind with 17 kills. IVC returns to the court tonight at home against Fullerton College at 6 p.m.

Women’s golf:

Freshman Nicole Rivera shot a one under par score of 69 at the Riverview Golf Course in Santa Ana on Thursday for the Lasers.

The score earned Rivera a first place medal in the event.

Sophomore Sam Roberts also had a stellar day at Riverview. Roberts had a score of 73 and had five birdies.

Freshman Tiffany Kane rounded out the day for IVC with a score of 86. Kane was playing with an ear infection, but still earned two birdies in her performance.

The Lasers return to the links for a five-way match at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on Monday.
