The men’s basketball team at Irvine Valley College had a rough season, but definitely ended strong. The Lasers won their final three games, including last Wednesday’s 88-78 win over Cypress.

Forward Jon Reed finished with 21 points and five rebounds, while guard Matt Ballard had a double-double finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds. In the last four games, Reed stepped up his game, scoring with just under 20 points per game.

“It was a physical game and a game where neither team could really stop the other from scoring,” IVC Coach Jerry Hernandez said. “But I was pleased with how we played. We were in control the whole second half.”

IVC finished with a 14-17 record overall while standing 4-8 in Orange Empire Conference play.

“It was a great way to finish the regular season,” IVC Coach Jerry Hernandez said. “With one or two more victories in the first round of conference play, we would definitely be in the playoffs.”

Jeff Ledbetter is the top scorer this season averaging 13.7 points per game, and a three-point percentage with a 39.4 percent clip. He further  led the team with 2.7 assists per game. The 6′ 3″ sophomore guard truly shows he is one of the  leaders of this team by his show of sportsmanship in not being greedy and passing the ball to his open teammates with easy looks to the basket.
