Irvine Valley College Women’s Volleyball team fought last Wednesday to send the San Diego Mesa woman home defeated after a three set game with a score of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16.

Allison Cook, the outside hitter, played amazing earning a whopping 19 kills by the end of the game. Other great performances in successful kills was Emily Mount, middle back, and Hannah Unruh, the middle back, with 8 kills each, and Annie Kim, the outside hitter, with 7 kills.

“We struggled in the beginning but we picked it up and got focused, then we took that and beat them,” Sarah Mendoza said, who plays the Libero for the team and also performed 14 digs on Wednesday.

“Its nice to get a win, we didn’t do very good last Friday, we got beat by a good team,” said Irvine Valley College women’s volleyball coach, Tom Pestolesi.

Despite the win against San Diego Mesa, the IVC women Lasers feel that they still have room for improvement.

“We still have a lot of things we need to get better at, we still have a long way to go, but that is why we have a 3 month season,” Pestolesi said.

The Irvine Valley College Woman’s Volleyball team started playing the Orange Empire Conference Match on Sept 30. The games from here on out are crucial to the team.

“As of today, its nice [for the team] to be home to and to have won. Its good to have seen progress from the players in what we have been working hard on,” Pestolesi said.
