Gauchos lose to OCC, tie with district rival Lasers

In last Tuesday’s soccer match, the Gauchos were defeated by Orange Coast College 3-0, including a hat trick by Kallie Ryker.

Ryker scored her first goal in the 39th minute. She added another goal four minutes into the second half of play and completed the hat trick with her third goal late in the game.

Saddleback goalie Kim Goupille had nine saves in the match. Pirate goalkeeper Rachel Gist had six saves for OCC.

The intra-district rivalry was renewed last Friday when Saddleback played the Lasers of Irvine Valley College. The Lasers had only 10 players on the field for a period of time but earned a 2-2 tie with the Gauchos.

Saddleback’s Marissa Pickett scored the first goal of the game and they took the 1-0 lead to the half. The Lasers would tie it in the second half on a goal from Arabia Ruiz.

The Gauchos would answer back and go up 2-1 on a goal by Brittany Flores. Ruiz would tie the game with her second goal. The Lasers were out shot 11-3 in the game but still managed a draw.

The Lasers have a 3-5-1 record overall and a 1-3-1 record in Orange Empire Conference play. They will play at Santa Ana on Friday at 3 p.m. and will host Santiago Canyon on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Saddleback has a 1-8-2 record overall and a 0-5-1 record in OEC play. The Gauchos will play Riverside at home Friday at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, the Gauchos will play at Golden West at 6 p.m.
