Gauchos drop two in a row against first place Dons

Baseball season is coming to an end and Saddleback College is looking for their spot in the playoffs. But their road will be a tough one after two losses against Santa Ana. After a hard 6-2 loss to Santa Ana College last Thursday, the Gauchos then headed to Santa Ana on Saturday.

The Gauchos took another unfortunate loss against the Dons. Losing the game 12-11.

Last Thursday sophomore Joe Richardson took the mound and the loss brought to 7-4 on the season.

Freshmen Scott Myers came in the seventh inning to finish the game in relief.

Freshmen Dalton Sype and Chris Mata provided the offense for the afternoon, both finished the game with two hits each.

Mata had an RBI single which scored sophomore Nick McManus for Gauchos first run of the game in the second inning, which gave Saddleback a 1-0 lead. The lead didn’t last long when the Dons scored a run in the fifth inning.

Santa Ana gained the lead in the sixth inning putting the score of 2-1.

In the eighth inning Santa Ana scored three more runs off relief pitcher Myers.

The Gauchos attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning after back-to-back doubles by sophomore Josh Leite and freshmen Darren Coombs.
Leite scored on the double by Coombs. Mata flied out and freshmen Tyler Krobetzky walked.

The inning came to end after a ground out by freshmen Brett Vertigan.

Santa Ana collected one more run in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 6-2. The Gauchos took the loss.

The Gauchos play tomorrow against Golden West at 2 p.m. The Gauchos play host again Friday, against Orange Coast College at 2 p.m.
