Experience and new blood to lead golf team forward

On August 27, the Saddleback College women’s golf team set its 2009 season in motion. The Gauchos are coming off of an 11-29 record and a 4th place finish in the Orange Empire Conference in 2008.
Returning for his second year as head coach, Gary Sabella has high hopes for this season. “Last year, we were young and inexperienced,” Sabella said, “but I thought we improved as the season progressed”.
Tanya Tran, who was all-OEC as a freshman, returns as one of the brightest spots on the team. Sam Burns, Mikka Chen, and Mandeep Dhillon, are sophomores bringing their experience to the Gauchos.
Some of the new arrivals to Saddleback are Linda Edelstein, Brittany Schlachter, and Kimberly Enyedi.
On September 2, Saddleback defeated Santiago Canyon, 326-327, to win the team title at the OEC Tee Off Classic.
The Gauchos start OEC match play today at their home course of the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club against Fullerton City College at 11 a.m.
