The Saddleback Gauchos’ cross-country season closed with a fitting finish to its season with an outstanding run at the state meet finals in Fresno. The runner, Ulysses Orozco, grabbed 9th place in a bewildering 20:16:20.

Among the 207 harriers present at the meet, six Saddleback Gauchos participated in the race, with all six placing below 73d. At 55th, Wyndal Skarsten ran the course in 21:40.60, Miles Brubacher in 56th at 21:40.70, Ronen Skarsten in 70th at 21:53.60, Brian Aguirre in 71st at 21:54:40 and coming in at 73d was Mark Delgado with a 21:55.2 time.

Out of the entire existence of Saddleback College’s cross-country program, only a 6th place finish in 1997 outclassed Saturday’s state finals finish. Among the 28 teams in the race, Saddleback snatched 9th of all teams participating in the race and 7th of teams coming from Southern California.

American River, a Northern California college, placed 1st.
