Bouncing into another season

Saddleback basketball is starting again for the 2013-14 season on Nov.14 at the Fullerton College Tournament, hosted by Fullerton College. The Gauchos’ first game time and opponent in the tournament is to be announced, their second game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. against Barstow, continuing with the rest of the tournament to be announced.

For the basketball fans out there who are unable to travel to the first away games of the season, the Gauchos will be hosting their first regular season game Friday, Nov. 22, against Pierce College at 6:00 p.m.

Coming off of a winning season that led the Gauchos to the regional finals and champions of the Orange Empire Conference will have three returning players. Guards De’Corrius Sampson-Young and DJ Feitl, center Rashad Davis will be teamed up with 13 new Gauchos who are freshman and transfers.

Last season the Gauchos had a 17-game win streak until they were defeated by Chaffey College in the regional finals.

The Gauchos will be involved in a handful of eight-team double elimination tournaments during the first half of the season and will host their own, the Bill Brummel Classic, Dec.19-21.  Other host colleges will include Fullerton Nov. 14-16, Palomar Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, and Riverside College Dec. 10-14.

The second stretch of the season starting in Jan. will be full of conference matchups. The Gauchos will be taking on season regulars Irvine Valley, Orange Coast, Santa Ana, Riverside and Fullerton.
