The ghouls, goblins and vampires are on the prowl. It’s that time of year and you should not be caught red handed with no treats to tempt them with. Whether you are trying to befriend or distract them, here is a sinfully sweet treat that will have the devil himself begging for more.

What you will need:

1 box of cake mix
1 jar white frosting
2 cups of water
1 ½ cups light corn syrup
¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
3 ½ cups of sugar
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
Red and blue food coloring

Directions:

Using festive cupcake liners, bake cupcakes according to box directions.

Let the cupcakes cool then frost with a generous amount of white frosting.

While the cupcakes bake and cool, you can begin to make the shards of candy glass.

In a saucepan mix 2 cups of water, 1 cup light corn syrup, 3 ½ cups sugar, ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Using a candy thermometer boil until it thickens and reaches 300 degrees this will take about an hour at medium heat.

Pour the mixture into a foil lined pan and let cool completely until hard. Once cool, take a hammer and break into shards to achieve a glass-like look.

Now let’s make some blood.

In a bowl mix ½ cup of light corn syrup and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.

Slowly begin to add water and food coloring until the consistency and color resemble blood.

It time to assemble your massacred cupcakes!

Take the shards of glass and arrange them on top of your frosted cupcakes. Now create your crime scene and drip blood on top of each one. Once you have one, you’ll be dying to have more!
