An informational meeting for the study-abroad program in Santander, Spain was held by Carmenmara Hernandez-Bravo, Director of Study Abroad Program, on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Student Services Center, Room 212.

The program takes place from July 4 to August 4, but travelers can stay longer if they wish if they buy their own plane tickets home. “Most people stay in Europe,” Hernandez-Bravo said. “They say, ‘we’re already here,’ so might as well.”

The trip’s arrival falls on a Saturday, which includes a one-night stay in Madrid. Students will have time to shower at their hotel, eat lunch, walk around the city and tour museums. A private bus is taken to Santander the following day where they’ll meet their home-stay families in which double rooms are provided. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are cooked by families.

“They are very small houses, your walk-in closet [here] is bigger than your whole house [there],” Hernandez-Bravo said. “But I don’t want you to be inside your house, I want you out in Spain.”

Students will travel to three different excursions on private buses. Destinations include Santillana del Mar and Comillas, Valle del Pas and Bilbao and Picos de Europa.

Every student is expected to attend school Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. A maximum of 9 units of transferrable Spanish credits is offered. Tuition fees cost between $5595 to $5995.

“A big part of the program is airfare,” Hernandez-Bravo said. “If you have miles you can use them, just plan ahead.”

The application deadline is March 21 and must be submitted in person. For more information contact Hernandez-Bravo at [email protected]
