The U.S. Department of Labor awarded Saddleback College’s Health Services with a $2.75 million Federal grant.

“The government shutdown will have no effect on this,” said health services dean Donna Rane-SzostakRane-Szostak continued, “This will be a three pronged approach. The first goal is to create clear pathways to highly skilled, high paying jobs. The second goal is to enhance the skills of active healthcare providers. And the third prong is to address educational needs for developing new roles in healthcare.”

The Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Program (TAACCCT) grant was awarded to only 23 of 174 applicant institutions this year.

According to The United States Department of Labor website, TAACT is meant to provide Community Colleges with resources to help fund career training programs that can be completed in under two years.

One of TAACT’s main goals is to provide national institutions that are helping adults to get the skills, degrees, and credentials needed for highly skilled, highly paid employment. The TAACT program is in partnership with the Department of Education.

TAACCCT is funded by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act and was signed into effect in March 2010.

Saddleback College is a regional hub in Health Care Education, offering aspiring health care providers programs such as phlebotomy, emergency medical technician, medical assistant, and medical lab technician.
