Library renovation continues
Built in the early 1970s, the library building was one of the first structures on the permanent campus. In 1973, the James B. Utt Memorial Library was dedicated in honor of Orange County’s late U.S. Congressman Utt.
The renovation of this 40-plus-year-old building is now in full swing. The work is scheduled to be finished by the beginning of the fall 2012 semester, according to Saddleback President Tod Burnett.
This term’s work brings heavy construction equipment and a number of construction workers to the campus.
“This is my fourth time back here,” said concrete pump operator Jim Weaver. “It is great that this project gives me work.”
With the current state of the library, Weaver suggests that the library won’t complete its renovations till next year.
“It will be upgraded to meet the needs of Saddleback students,” Burnett said.
During the library building’s renovation, its regular tenants are located in the Village.
