Future teacher learn valuable tips at Teaching Information Seminar
Prospective teachers eagerly crowded into the Teaching Information Seminar last Wednesday, Feb. 4, to learn how to become a licensed teacher in California.
Hosted by the Saddleback Transfer Center, the seminar featured Community College Relations Coordinator Barbara Saur from California State University Fullerton’s Center for Careers in Teaching. Saur covered the scope of what a future teacher needs to know, how and where to learn it.
“The seminar is very informative if you are going into teaching,” said Transfer Center Specialist Judy Pohl. “It really covers what you need to do to be a teacher.”
Saur said her objective was to inform students of all the obstacles out there in getting a teaching credential.
“My main goal overall is to improve the quality of teaching in the state,” said Saur. “I love knowing we are doing everything possible to make education better at the same time we are helping students.”
John Belleci, 45, history, found the seminar very informative.
“I wanted to get as much information as I could,” he said.
Wendy Herrmann, who received her bachelor’s degree in social work from CSUF, also found the seminar useful.
“I have a better handle on what I need to do to become a teacher,” she said.
Saur encouraged all those interested to contact her or another counselor.
“Most students don’t realize that there are numerous counselors available to make the transition as possible,” Sauer said. “That’s why we’re here.”
