For students who feel intimidated by the vast amount of information available through the college library, workshops are available to alleviate the anxiety of those “library-challenged.”

For one conducting research, searching for reputable online sources, the workshops will assist in accessing databases of journals, magazines and newspapers that are available 24/7 to students. Both Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges are offering workshops this semester.

Workshop topics include a general overview of using traditional as well as electronic books, searching the Internet and finding information, avoiding plagiarism, structuring research, evaluating sources, and using citation generators for bibliographies.

Saddleback is offering eight workshops, both online through Blackboard as well as at the library. IVC’s workshops are at the library only.

For the online workshops, sign into Blackboard  and go to the top right corner, click the Community tab.

To reserve a spot in the at-library session, sign up in Village 3 or call the library’s reference desk at 949-582-4525. Workshops are held in VIL 32-01. The schedule is available on the Library’s section of the Saddleback website.

Students at Irvine Valley College have the same opportunity. Research Skills Workshops are entitled “Finding Articles,” “Internet Research,” and “Research in your PJs.” The schedule offers several offerings of each workshop . To reserve a seat, email [email protected] or call the reference desk at (949) 451-5266. Walk-ins are welcome, if there is space.
