Wife of former SOCCCD trustee dies after battling disease
Joann Williams, wife of former South Orange County Community College District trustee and Saddleback College alum, John Williams, passed away Oct. 8, surrounded by family and friends, after a nearly two-year battle with breast cancer. Joann also suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Williams served on the board for 18 years, actively supported Saddleback’s golf tournaments and was a volunteer track coach.
“We were happily married for 43 years and are the proud parents of Ian, 32 and Lauren, 29,” Williams said. “The family wants our college community to be invited to the services in her memory.”
The Rev. Tom Atkins, Saddleback Church, will reside over the services that are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. in the Saddleback Church Plaza Room, Plaza Building (next to its main worship center located at 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest, California.)
Williams said his family requests that in lieu of flowers for this service, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society and/or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation. Williams added he was thankful for the prayers and support he has received.
Williams encourages those who may have known Joann to attend her memorial service.
Joann taught for more than 30 years as a sixth grade teacher.
Williams told Lariat News, he was proud his family attended and graduated from Saddleback College. “We are all Gauchos,” Williams said with much enthusiasm.
