ATEP announces growth of 160 percent since opening in 2007

TUSTIN, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2009) – When the doors opened at the Advanced Technology and Education Park in Tustin, there were only 400 enrolled students. Today there are more than 1000 students attending ATEP, an increase of 250 percent in only 18 months.

ATEP officials announced last week that the rapid enrollment growth is following the trend that more people are seeking a technical education and career skills due to the economic downturn.

“ATEP’s focus on career technical skills and global competitiveness draws students to our new campus,” said Provost Randy Peebles. “From design model making, entrepreneurship and languages, to basic skills and critical transfer courses, we offer a good mix for those looking to gain an edge.”

The one-acres initial campus opened in Aug. 2007, and now stands on an expended 68-acre site. Peebles said that due to the demand, the school is focused on an accelerated expansion.

“In the next month or so we will have detailed concept plans to share with the public,” Peebles said.

The Advanced Technology and Education Park is the newest campus of the South Orange County Community College District and is located at 15445 Lansdowne Road, off of Red Hill Avenue in Tustin, Calif.
