Students dance to fight cancer

The Saddleback College Student Development Office will host the Dance Against Cancer May 2 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Saddleback College gymnasium to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancers.

Students can make a team with at least two people, create a team ID, choose a charity to support and register at SSC 210.

The event will support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Be the Match.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that raises money for research to find cures for children with cancer. Be the Match is a nonprofit organization for bone marrow transplantation.

“The school is sponsoring the event but the students are raising the funding from their own community,” said Audra Dipadova, 36, director of student life. “It’s the first year we’re doing that so we are trying to get more people to sign up.”

Dance Against Cancer is a relay dance marathon so each team will need to have someone on the dance floor at all times in order to get the completion prizes.

“Our team already has over 10,000 dollars [raised],” said Erin Long, senior administrative assistant of Student Development Office. “These two organizations are really worth receiving the funding because people care about kids a lot.”
