The Saddleback College’s Chess Club meets Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Business/General Studies building, Room 255.

It’s a club for anyone interested in learning how to play and build their chess-playing skills.

The club’s president and vice president are Alex and Julian Duarte.  Along with other current members of the club, the Duarte’s are experienced players and teachers.

“In fact, one of the players is a United States Chess Federation (USCF) rated Master Chess Player,” Julian Duarte said.

The meetings include lessons for the beginner to the seasoned chess player, and of course playing a lot of chess.

In the future, the club hopes to have its own USCF sanctioned tournaments and to have friendly chess tournaments with clubs elsewhere.

“We hope to build a team of players that could represent the club and school in national tournaments,” Julian Duarte said.

If you even have a remote interest in chess, want to learn how to play the game,  perfect your skills or even just have some fun, join the chess club today.
