A randon walk through campus

Steven M. Chernow MD MBA

It was one the best Monday’s in March 2013 at Saddleback College. The sun was high in the sky without clouds.  A light breeze blew across the campus, and this photographer took the opportunity to catch what typical days in the life of students at Saddleback looked like, and what they were doing on this gorgeous day.  Not quite the “Manic Monday,” described in lyrics by Cinder Lopper, but the day had its own rhythm and beat.

The first group of students, majoring said that they were “just hanging out,” The topics of the day for them were e-cigs.  Danny, a very hip dude, was using his break catch up on with friends through texting and Facebook.  Marcia Garcia, Soul Clifber and their friend Nathan were just having fun in the sun and discussing the latest trends in the game MAGIC.

Brandon was working outside on this beautiful spring day, taking advantage of the sunshine and catching some rays, while attacking Beginning Algebra. He hesitantly said was going OK.  He plans on transferring to a four year university, and specialize in sport business, and possibly becoming a sports announcer. Chick Herns and Vince Schully, you are going to have some fierce competition in the future.

Tara Nelson was in the quad eating, while reading for her biology class.  She plans to transfer and obtain her  Masters degree in family and marriage counseling.

Sarah Head was undecided regarding her long-term goals, but not her desires to transfer to Cal State Marious, that was a certain in her mind.

Lorane Lugan was taking it up a notch, as she worked on her College Algebra homework. Her plans are to transfer to Cal State Long Beach, and become a hospital-based speech therapist.

Britnny Ferrie also loves working with children, and was working on her degree in children’s education, so that she could work in the elementary school to help, teach and mentor the future generation.  Thank goodness for Saddleback students like her.

Ally Twitchell wants to be a writer, travel the world and discover new places exploring new cultures, while expanding her horizons and meeting new people.  This photojournalist would love to join as her photographer!

A few yards away was Justine, and he stated that he was leaning towards a career in environmental studies, and use technology to develop alternative forms of clean energy. He will indeed  be part of the solution our planet so badly needs.

Adrin, biology, was just “hanging out,” and texting. He wants to eventually transfer to the University of California Santa Barbra (the only UC campus to own beach front property).  His focus is in business and economics.

Jane Lu hoped to get her associate of arts in accounting and then work as a booker or accountant.  She loves using QuickBooks and keeping things orderly and neat.

Necoline Vazquez is focused on business administration, with the goal to attend University of California, Irvine (UCI) or Cal State Fullerton.  She said that she would like to pursue financial planning, so she could help people avoid the financial disasters in their past.

Matt Corkill, a professional photographer who takes advanced photography at Saddleback, plans to transfer to the center for the arts and eventually work full time as a commercial photographer.  Having seen his work, I am sure he will succeed.

Vus Hoag desires to major in laboratory nursing, with plans to transfer to UCI.  Desira Schars, on the other hand, wants to get out of California.  Her aspirations include law school and becoming a patent attorney.

Chirs Chister decided to attend Saddleback, because it’s close to his home andhe is saving his money for when he transfers to UCLA.  His goal is to become a Spanish teacher and develop a curriculum in Chicano Studies in a high school environment.

Another young lady in the quad already had her bachelors in English, which she earned in Iran.
