Nine Saddleback College students in the Bridge to Engineering program were named by NASA’s National Community College Aerospace Scholars Program and had a three-day experience at NASA on Feb. 26-28.

The students who were named to NCAS are: Edwin Lamothe, Sergio Flores, Jarrod Cavanaugh, Tara Atkinson, Corey Keenan, Shane Sharp, Anthony Campbell, James Daum and Carter Brown.

I was quite excited, I immediately called my girlfriend and all of my family,” said Anthony Campbell, a 24-year-old mathematics and physics major. “It was a feeling of success, like a huge opportunity was presented to me because of my hard work.”

The NASA’s National Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) is an educational program that selects college students across the nation to participate in an on-site team project and in web-based activities. Students also get to experience behind the scene tours of NASA. The selected student group will have a chance to visit NASA and interact with with engineers, educators, scientists, and community college students from across the nation.

According to NASA’s official website, participants will work in teams with other community college students from across the nation to compete in different engineering design challenges with a NASA engineer or scientist. At the end of the event, student teams will present their experience and a preliminary design review panel will judge to select the winning team.
