Saddleback College’s football team had three players sign letters of intent to NCAA Division I teams this week.

Sophomore quarterback Johnny Stanton, sophomore linebacker Anthony Hickey and freshman offensive lineman Jake Nelson were the players to sign.

Stanton signed to play at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Hickey signed to the University of Texas-San Antonio and Nelson to the University of Nevada, Reno.

Stanton, who was Saddleback’s MVP for the season, previously played at the University of Nebraska, before transferring to Saddleback to play this season. He threw for 3,471 yards, rushed for 747 yards and had 39 total touchdowns.

Nelson was one of the key players on the offensive line that protected Stanton. He also was selected unanimously to the all-conference team at left tackle.

Hickey led the team with 8 1/2 tackles for loss and was fifth on the team in tackles with 57.

The Gauchos finished the season 10-3, reaching the state championship game, but ultimately lost to City College of San Francisco.
