The Saddleback College Police Department hosted a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on campus last Friday to commemorate the firefighters and police officers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The ceremony was led by Saddleback Police Lt. Michael Betzler.

Sheriff Explorer Post 449 presented the colors, while Erin Long, an administrative assistant in Student Development, performed the national anthem.

Guest speakers also included Orange County Fire Battalion Chief Cliff Bramlette and USMC Sgt. Juan Valdez.

In a press release Friday, Saddleback President Dr. Tod Burnett thanked those who gave tribute to the fallen heroes.

“Fourteen years after that tragic day, Saddleback College continues to honor those we lost,” Burnett said. “I want to thank all of those in attendance who helped us in this tribute to them.”

The ceremony concluded with Vice President for Instruction Dr. Kathy Werle placing a wreath at the Veterans Memorial.
