Saddleback Theatre puts on “Hello, Dolly!” this July

Saddleback Civic Light Opera and the Department of Theatre Arts present Hello, Dolly! starring Jonelle Allen as Dolly on July 11 through the 27 in the McKinney Theatre at Saddleback Community College.

Hello, Dolly! is a classic musical about a matchmaker and her humorous attempts to pair lovers together in turn-of-the-century New York. The play was a recipient of 10 Tony Awards when it first premiered in 1964.

According to the Saddleback College Theatre Department,  Allen is not only a Saddleback College acting professor but also an established film, television, and musical theatre performer. The award-winning play is directed by Myrona DeLaney,with choreography by Roger Castellano and musical direction by Lex Leigh.

Allen grew up in New York and began her stage career as a child. She’s acted in many Broadway shows such as “Etta Jenks,” “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide,” and “Man of La Mancha,” for which Allen won a Dramalogue Award for her performance as Aldonza.

Allen has also appeared in numerous feature films and television productions including Hotel New Hampshire, Cagney and Lacey, Hill Street Blues, Generations, Twice In A Lifetime for PAX-TV and Strong Medicine for Lifetime Network.
