Concert Hour: Saddleback students in Recital
Audience turned on the flashlights to help Neal Armstrong finish his performance while the stage lights shut down in McKinney Theatre at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
Saddleback College’s music students were closing the last week of school before finals by demonstrating their talents in Recital Concert Hour: Saddleback Students in Recital, which was held in McKinney Theatre on Thursday, May 15 at noon.
Students performed a lot of old famous songs with their voice, instrumentals, piano and a jazz band.
A lot of performers’ parents and friends came to support them since it was free admission.
“This is one of the best performance of mine, I feel really good about that,” said Aaron Friehling, a 20-year-old music performance student. “There were more people came to see our performance than I expected.”
The stage lights unexpectedly shut down during Neal Armstrong’s piano performance. The audience turned on their cellphone’s flashlights to help Armstrong continue with his performance.
“I was not scared at all, I just felt strange that the lights were off but I just told myself to keep going,” said Armstrong, 23, music major. “I was so happy when the audience helped me with the lights, I really wanted to finish the song and I made it.”
The show ended with a piano performance by Ariana Espinoza with the song Danza del Gaucho Matrero.
“I always have a problem with being really nervous playing music in front of people,” said Espinoza, 22, music major. “Saddleback’s music program really helped me get myself out of my comfort zone. If someone asks me about Saddleback’s music program, I would say go for it! Even when you don’t major in music but music will always be a around as a part of culture and a part of your life.”
