Saddleback College’s Big Band will be performing this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. inside the McKinney Theatre.

“We have some west coast premiers by Karl Soukup who is a trumpeter/composer down in San Diego coming up,” said jazz instructor Joey Sellers. “We are also featuring some of my work upon request by some of the guys in the band.”

Sellers also said the Big Band will be playing some music from John Coltrane and also feature singing from his student, Elysia Brewer, 20, music.

“We have some great tunes. We have some good tunes. I’m really excited.  This is my first time singing with the big band,”  Brewer said.

Brewer commented that she will lead off from one tune which she says is awesome but admits is intimidating. One of the tracks she will sing is “I Have You Under My Skin,” “If You Never Fall In Love With Me” and another is “Blame It On My Youth.”

“Big Band is really one of the best bands we have, just because it’s for everybody. There is nothing too crazy,” Brewer said. “Sometimes people come to jazz concerts and they are a little out-there, but the Big Band is just very solid and all the guys are just fantastic musicians. All of them have worked very hard on their craft.”

Sellers said that the line up for the show was great and was excited to be part of the performance.

General admission for the concert is $10 and $7 for student as well as seniors.
