ARTS: Upcoming Events at Saddleback and IVC

Saddleback College:

Free Concert Series: Saddleback College’s Music department will be presenting a series of free concerts, begining on January 22, in FA 101. All concerts are free and begin at 1 p.m.

The series opens with the Algonquin Quartet and continues on Feb. 26 with Patrice Michaels and Rebecca Rollins, Apr. 9 with a special rendition of Aaron Copland’s, “Masterpiece Appalachian Spring”, and wraps up May 7 with the department’s spring recital.

Art Songs and Arias: Classical literature’s best loved songs are coming to Saddleback. Under the direction of Dr. Scott Farthing, the music of Shubert, Schumann, Mozart and Rorem will be performed by select voice students. General admission, $15: students and seniors, $10, free for students with current ASG card.

Jazz Day with Nicholas Payton:
Fans of jazz, get ready to celebrate as Saddleback College brings you a day of funky tunes. The day-long event finishes with a performance of the Saddleback Big Band and trumpeter Nicholas Payton. General admission $15; students and seniors, $10.

Irvine Valley College

Performing Arts Center:

Pianist Slawomir Doibranski will make a guest apperance on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m.

The 1st Annual Jenny Richards Memorial Voice Scholarship Benefit Recital will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7.

On Friday, Feb. 20, jazz lovers can enjoy the bright sounds of IVC’s Jazz Ensemble.

The Art Gallery:

“drawn/draft/depict” will be open Jan. 26 through Mar. 6. On opening night, the gallery will host a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
